NOTE: For repeat visitors, I am updating the links in the review schedule below to point directly to each blogger's post about the book.
Today, my friend and colleague Aaron Strout kicked off what I hope proves to be an interesting two-week experiment in influencer outreach, crowdsourcing, social media book reviews and (yep) micromarketing.
My publicity firm (Planned Television Arts) and I hatched a blogger outreach idea that we thought was right in line with some of the concepts in the microMARKETING: Get Big Results by Thinking and Acting Small. In a nutshell, we've engaged 21 or so micromavens who influence the marketing community to write microreviews, if you will. Over the course of the next couple of weeks, each will share his or her thoughts on just one microchunk of the content-- specifically, each will review just one chapter. But taken together, this crew's 21 blog posts will represent a crowdsourced review of the entire book. And of course, I assume each will link to the others, sparking a network effect and making it easy for their readers to cruise across all the participants' diverse perspectives on what I wrote.
If you're not familiar with the jargon I've peppered throughout the previous chapter, I suspect you will be once you've tracked down everyone's chapter-by-chapter reviews. So why not start with the Stroutmeister's thoughts on Chapter 1 today.
But more importantly, why not check out all the reviews, as they hit the participants' blogs over the source of the coming two weeks. In the process, you'll hear the book put into perspective by some of the smartest voices in the marketing blogosphere, catch some great thinking from some folks you already know well, and maybe even discover some new (to you) bloggers to add to your RSS reader. And along the way, I hope they'll convince you to buy a copy of microMARKETING and come to your own conclusions about how you can apply some of the approaches to your work.
Here's your complete program guide for the coming couple of weeks:
- On Sep 20 (today!) Aaron Strout reviews Chapter 1
- On Sep 21 Lucretia Pruitt and Mitch Joel review Chapter 2
- On Sep 22 Jason Falls and Toby Bloomberg take on Chapter 3
- OnSep 23 Katya Andresen and Murray Newlands tackle Chapter 4
- On Sep 24 Marc Meyer hits Chapter 5
- On Sep 27 Ari Herzog reviews Chapter 6
- On Sep 28 Danny Brown, Jay Baer, Adam Cohen and Becky Caroll all share their thoughts about Chapter 7
- On Sep 29 C.C. Chapman and Elmer Boutin write about Chapter 8
- On Sep 30 John Moore and Beth Harte wrap it up with their takes on Chapter 9
Enjoy! I know (personally or through social media) a lot of the folks on the roster, so I'd expect lots of great perspectives on the material - I hope some will rave, I fear some will rant, and figure some will fall somewhere in the middle. But one thing's for sure: it probably won't be boring...
If you like what you read, be sure to help spread the word (and the love), and in the meantime I'd love to hear your thoughts on what we're doing here. Interesting approach to book reviews?
