Haven't you always wanted a monkey a couple of hours with your very own social media guru? Does your company have a charitable giving program? If you answered yes to either question, read on...
If you spend time on Twitter or any of the other social media services we uber-dorks allow to monopolize our time, you might know Jennifer Leggio (@Mediaphyter.) Although I had seen her handle pop-up from time to time in my Twitterstream, I didn't actually meet her (online, of course) until last week. But when she solicited my support for a Charity Auction she was planning, I knew I couldn't refuse.
Jennifer is running in the Nike Women's Marathon to raise money for Team in Training, the fundraising arm of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. When she ran last year, she raised a few grand. This year, she's looking to up the ante and bring in $10,000 in donations -- and she has turned to some social media friends (including one of her newest: me) to help her get there by auctioning off some of our time and know-how.
So here's the scoop. To help Jennifer bring in some bucks, I am auctioning off one in-person presentation to the highest bidder. If you aren't familiar with my speaking programs, you can learn more on my Speaking page -- but basically, we're talking about a keynote-style speech (or workshop, if you prefer) that lays out a series of emerging business and technology trends, and provides audience members with some clear, actionable ways they can leverage those trends to kick some ass.
You can bid for me on eBay now.
Bidding for my package starts at $700, so odds are that even after you factor in travel expenses (incremental to your bid) you'll be getting a good deal, while doing good for others. But let's not be cheap, people -- let's see if we can help Jennifer power past her $10,000 goal. All donations go directly to Team in Training, will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and are of course tax deductible. So if you hold budget for your company, book speakers for conferences or are just a wealthy individual looking to spice up your daughter's Sweet Sixteen, I hope you'll consider placing a bid and helping to fight cancer.
In addition to my package, you can buy time from Chris Brogan, Geoff Livingston, Mzinga's Aaron Strout and my colleague Joe Jaffe. Each participant is offering something different -- from speaking engagements to consulting hours to a brainstorming session -- so be sure to check out Jennifer's post for all the details, and click through to each individual's eBay page for more information and to place your bid.
