So I've been given my first bit of blogola -- a free review copy of a book called The Elements of Persuasion by executive communication consultants Richard Maxwell and Robert Dickman (hey Matt, any relation?)
OK, so maybe it isn't an iPhone, but I devour business books and have blogged about them on occassion, so odds are I would have gone out and bought this book anyway. As I write this post, I'm only 32 pages in -- but in a nutshell, the authors contend that persuasive storytelling is a valuable tool for anyone that wants to succeed in sales, marketing, leadership and business in general. In the book they lay out what they believe are the five basic elements of a persuasive story -- passion, a hero, an antagonist, awareness and transformation -- and show how anyone can use better stories as a pathway to better business.
Interesting idea -- sorta like a cousin to Made To Stick -- and a good read so far. I'm sure I'll have more to say about The Elements of Persuasion as I work my way through it.
Anyone else reading this book? Thoughts?
